Epiphany Times

Epiphany in Germany

The festive season came and went and with the start of another calendar year we are creeping further along an imaginary timeline. Many did the best they could to keep things merry despite circumstances, or just simply ignored the c-shit storm raging outside. Now the ‘joyous’ times are over, it is comforting for some that this year too one can enjoy one’s fear porn 24-7.

Stormy Weather Still

The night I was skanking on a Caribbean beach to celebrate a new year and a new decade seems like a lifetime ago. All those c-shit show controlling measures that have been introduced since then and that were considered temporary at the time have proved to be not that temporary after all. I am sure there are plenty who believe that the c-thing will be over quite soon. Nothing lasts forever, but once you have given them a finger, they come for the whole hand and you can be sure that your arse will be next. As this shit storm has been raging for two years with varying intensity, many are fearful of times to come, which is most understandable. But fear is a lousy adviser, the worst captain on a ship. Fear is not to be eliminated as experiencing feelings and emotions is part of the human condition, but fear needs to know its place and you need to show it where its place is. Let it walk the plank, or when it’s in the driver’s seat, put it in the boot.

About Some Kings

Today is Twelfth Night, a Christian feast day and the name of one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays. The feast day is also called Epiphany or Three Kings Day, and Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas today and tomorrow. On Three Kings Day one celebrates that Three Wise Men who where considered kings came from the East to visit baby Jesus and bring him gifts. Coming from a catholic region, I remember the custom that you had to get rid of your Christmas decorations on or before 6 January. I am not religious as to me religions are predominately systems of control rather than frameworks of spirituality, but I sure like epic stories and great myths. For me the question is not, whether this story of baby Jesus and the arrival of a number of distinguished men is historically accurate, and whether they were indeed kings, from the East and three in number. The essence of this story is that one or several distinguished and wise individuals travelled from afar to acknowledge the supernatural or divinity in a small child from humble origins. There is a lot we can learn from this story, especially in these wacky times.

Follow the Star

There is a magical child within us all and many of us through parental and societal conditioning have lost connection with that magical inner child. Now is the time to find the Wise One in ourselves and acknowledge our inner wonder. Anoint yourself, turn your lead into gold and rule over your inner kingdom. I changed latitude a few days ago and moved down south. It’s not exactly flip-flop weather where I am, but temperatures are milder and the light is brighter which makes a massive difference. After what will be a second consecutive winter in Europe, I have already decided that the third one has to be in the tropics if circumstances allow it.

Wherever you find yourself, don’t let the c-shit show or winter or both get you down. Follow that star and crown yourself Queen or King.

Happy Epiphany.
